Glomeromycota (Am Fungi) C. Walker & A. Schüßler 2001
fungi phylum
Glomeromycota (often referred to as glomeromycetes, as they include only one class, Glomeromycetes) are one of eight currently recognized divisions within the kingdom Fungi, with approximately 230 described species. Members of the Glomeromycota form arbuscular mycorrhizas (AMs) with the thalli of bryophytes and the roots of vascular land plants. Not all species have been shown to form AMs, and one, Geosiphon pyriformis, is known not to do so. Instead, it forms an endocytobiotic association with Nostoc cyanobacteria. The majority of evidence shows that the Glomeromycota are dependent on land
Diversisporales C. Walker & A. Schüßler 2004
fungi order in the class glomeromycetes
The Diversisporales are an order of generally hypogeous (underground) arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi within the division Glomeromycota. Many have vesicles for energy storage, or auxiliary cells. Species produce a wide range of spore types, hence the name.
Archaeosporales C. Walker & A. Schüßler 2001
fungi order in the class glomeromycetes
Archaeosporales is an order of fungi best known as arbuscular mycorrhiza to vascular land plants (Tracheophyta). But also form free living endocyte symbioses with cyanobacteria. The free living forms may have a Precambrian fossil record back 2.2 Ga, well before evolution of Tracheophyta. However, the earliest fossils of Opisthokonta otherwise date back to the early Tonian, thus making this possibility questionable.
Paraglomerales C. Walker & A. Schüßler 2001
fungi order in the class glomeromycetes
The Paraglomerales are a group of exclusively hypogeous (underground) arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi that rarely produce vesicles and reproduce through unpigmented spores. It includes the species Paraglomus brasilianum, Paraglomus laccatum, and Paraglomus occultum.
Funneliformis C. Walker & A. Schüßler 2010
fungi genus in the glomeraceae family
Funneliformis is a genus of fungi in the family Glomeraceae. All species are arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi that form symbiotic relationships (mycorrhizaa) with plant roots. The genus was circumscribed in 2010 by Arthur Schüßler and Christopher Walker, with Funneliformis mosseae (named after the biologist Barbara Mosse and originally described in 1968 as a species of Endogone) as the type species. The generic name refers to the funnel-shaped spore base present in several species.
Rhizophagus irregularis (Błaszk., Wubet, Renker & Buscot) C. Walker & A. Schüßler 2010
fungi species in the glomeraceae family
Rhizophagus irregularis (previously known as Glomus intraradices) is an arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus used as a soil inoculant in agriculture and horticulture. Rhizophagus irregularis is also commonly used in scientific studies of the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on plant and soil improvement. Until 2001, the species was known and widely marketed as Glomus intraradices, but molecular analysis of ribosomal DNA led to the reclassification of all arbuscular fungi from Zygomycota phylum to the Glomeromycota phylum.
