Carroll William Dodge

American botanist and mycologist (1895–1988).

Carroll William Dodge (January 20, 1895 – July 21, 1988) was an American mycologist and lichenologist. His major fields of study included human and mammalian parasitic fungi, lichen-associated fungi, and fungi forming subterranean sporophores. His research and publications on Antarctic lichens were substantial, but not well received by the taxonomic community.

Rhizopogonaceae Gäum. & C.W. Dodge 1928
fungi family in the order boletales
The Rhizopogonaceae are a family of fungi in the order Boletales. The family, first named and described by botanists Ernst Albert Gäumann and Carroll William Dodge in 1928, contains 2 genera and 151 species. The genus Fevansia, formerly thought to belong in the Rhizopogonaceae, was found to belong in the Albatrellaceae in a molecular phylogenetics study.
Taphrinales Gäum. & C.W. Dodge 1928
fungi order in the class taphrinomycetes
The Taphrinomycetes are a class of ascomycete fungi belonging to the subdivision Taphrinomycotina. It includes the single order Taphrinales, which includes 2 families, 8 genera and 140 species.
Hydnangiaceae Gäum. & C.W. Dodge 1928
fungi family in the order agaricales
The Hydnangiaceae are a family of fungi in the mushroom order Agaricales. Widespread in temperate and tropical regions throughout the world, the family contains about 30 species in four genera. Species in the Hydnangiaceae form ectomycorrhizal relationships with various species of trees in both coniferous and deciduous forests.
Taphrinaceae Gäum. & C.W. Dodge 1928
fungi family in the order taphrinales
The Taphrinaceae are a family of fungi in the order Taphrinales. According to a 2008 estimate, the family contains 2 genera and 118 species.
Hemigasteraceae Gäum. & C.W. Dodge 1928
fungi family in the order agaricales
The Hemigasteraceae are a family of fungi in the order Agaricales. The family is monotypic, containing the single genus Hemigaster, which in turn contains the single species Hemigaster candidus.
Rhizopogon occidentalis Zeller & C.W. Dodge 1918
fungi species in the rhizopogonaceae family
Rhizopogon occidentalis is an ectomycorrhizal fungus in the family Rhizopogonaceae of the Basidiomycota. It occurs most commonly in western North America in association with two-needle and three-needle pine hosts. They are false truffles with fruiting bodies that are yellow on the surface and pale yellow inside. Their edibility is disputed.
Alpova C.W. Dodge 1931
fungi genus in the paxillaceae family
Alpova is a genus of fungi in the family Paxillaceae. It contains about 20 species of ectomycorrhizal false-truffles that collectively have a widespread distribution, especially in northern temperate areas. The genus was circumscribed by Carroll William Dodge in 1931.
Pseudocyphellaria glabra (Hook. f. & Taylor) C.W. Dodge 1948
fungi species in the lobariaceae family
Pseudocyphellaria glabra is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling), foliose lichen in the family Peltigeraceae. It has a pale-green upper thallus surface, a white medulla and white pseudocyphellae (tiny pores for gas exchange).

Malassezia pachydermatis (Weidman) C.W. Dodge 1935
fungi species in the malasseziaceae family
Malassezia pachydermatis is a zoophilic yeast in the division Basidiomycota. It was first isolated in 1925 by Fred Weidman, and it was named pachydermatis (Greek for 'thick-skin') after the original sample taken from an Indian rhinoceros (Rhinocerosus unicornis) with severe exfoliative dermatitis. Within the genus Malassezia, M. pachydermatis is most closely related to the species M. furfur. A commensal fungus, it can be found within the microflora of healthy mammals such as humans, cats and dogs, However, it is capable of acting as an opportunistic pathogen under special circumstances and
Gymnographopsis C.W. Dodge 1967
fungi genus in the graphidaceae family
Gymnographopsis is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Graphidaceae. It was circumscribed by American lichenologist Carroll William Dodge in 1967, with Gymnographopsis chilena assigned as the type species. These lichens form dull grey-olive to yellow-brown crusts on tree bark and are characterized by straight to weakly curved fruiting bodies whose sides appear brown-black and whose openings expose disc-like surfaces. The genus has a pantropical distribution, growing on shaded tree trunks and lower branches in evergreen forests, where their intolerance of heavy disturbance makes them
