American mycologist (1923-2002).

Chester Ray Benjamin (January 23, 1923 – April 20, 2002) was an American mycologist. His research was focused on the taxonomy of fungal molds belonging to the orders Eurotiales and Mucorales. Born and raised in Ohio, Benjamin received his undergraduate education from Mount Union College in Alliance after serving in the Navy for four years during World War II. Benjamin earned his Doctoral degree (dissertation title: "Ascocarps of Aspergillus and Penicillium") in 1955 from the University of Iowa under the tutelage of George Willard Martin. Talaromyces C.R. Benj. 1955
fungi genus in the aspergillaceae family
Talaromyces is a genus of fungi in the family Trichocomaceae. Described in 1955 by American mycologist Chester Ray Benjamin, species in the genus form soft, cottony fruit bodies (ascocarps) with cell walls made of tightly interwoven hyphae. The fruit bodies are often yellowish or are surrounded by yellowish granules. A 2008 estimate placed 42 species in the genus, but several new species have since been described. This genus contains the teleomorph of Penicillium.
Actinomucor elegans (Eidam) C.R. Benj. & Hesselt. 1957
fungi species in the mucoraceae family
Actinomucor elegans was originally described by Schostakowitsch in Siberia in 1898 and reevaluated by Benjamin and Hesseltine in 1957. Commonly found in soil and used for the commercial production of fermented tofu and other products made by soy fermentation. Its major identifying features are its spine-like projections on the sporangiophore and its ribbon-like hyphal structure when found in the tissue of a host.
Aspergillus halophilicus M. Chr., Papav. & C.R. Benj. 1961
fungi species in the aspergillaceae family
Aspergillus halophilicus is a species of fungus in the genus Aspergillus. It is from the Restricti section. The species was first described in 1959. It has been isolated from dried corn in the United States and a textile in the Netherlands. It has been reported to produce chaetoviridin A, deoxybrevianamid E, pseurotin A, pseurotin D, rugulusovin, stachybotryamide, and tryprostatin B.
