Clifford William Hesseltine

The Saksenaeaceae are a family of fungi in the order Mucorales. It was circumscribed in 1974 by J.J. Ellis and Clifford Hesseltine.

Backusella is the sole genus of zygote fungi in the family Backusellaceae, which is classified in the order Mucorales. Members of this genus have been often isolated from plant litter, from locations around the world.

Actinomucor elegans was originally described by Schostakowitsch in Siberia in 1898 and reevaluated by Benjamin and Hesseltine in 1957. Commonly found in soil and used for the commercial production of fermented tofu and other products made by soy fermentation. Its major identifying features are its spine-like projections on the sporangiophore and its ribbon-like hyphal structure when found in the tissue of a host.

The Radiomycetaceae are a family of fungi in the order Mucorales. Members of this family have a widespread distribution, but are more commonly found in warm climates.

It has been reported to produce aflatoxin B1, aflatoxin B2, aflatoxin G1, aflatoxin G2, aspergillic acid, kojic acid, nominine, paspaline, pseurotin, and tenuazonic acid. A. nomius has been identified as the cause of human infections.

Subbaromyces was a genus of fungi in the family Ophiostomataceae, Sordariomycetes. It was later moved to class Laboulbeniomycetes (with unknown order or family) incertae sedis. The genus was named to honour Yellapragada Subbarow.
