Gerhard Walter Rambold

German mycologist, lichenologist.

Gerhard Rambold (born 1956) is a German lichenologist, mycologist and university professor who has led the mycology group at the University of Bayreuth since 1999. He is recognised for creating LIAS, "A Global Information System for Lichenised and Non‑Lichenised Ascomycetes", which integrates morphological, molecular and distributional data into interactive identification tools. Combining extensive field collections with bio‑ and ecoinformatics, his research spans taxonomy, photobiont ecology and fungal biodiversity on several continents.

Dibaeis baeomyces (Pink Earth Lichen) (L. f.) Rambold & Hertel 1993
fungi species in the icmadophilaceae family
Dibaeis baeomyces, commonly known as pink earth lichen, is a fruticose lichen belonging to the family Icmadophilaceae.
Miriquidica Hertel & Rambold 1987
fungi genus in the lecanoraceae family
Miriquidica is a genus of lichen in the family Lecanoraceae. The genus was circumscribed in 1987 by the lichenologists Hannes Hertel and Gerhard Rambold, with Miriquidica complanata assigned as the type species. According to Dictionary of the Fungi (10th edition, 2008), the widespread genus contains 23 species, found predominantly in arctic-alpine regions.
Immersaria Rambold & Pietschm. 1989
fungi genus in the lecideaceae family
Immersaria is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Lecideaceae. Species in the genus form brown to orange-brown crusts on rock, often with a waxy or glossy surface. They are characterised by dark, sunken fruiting bodies that lack the prominent rim seen in some related genera. The genus occurs in Europe, Asia, and the Southern Hemisphere, typically in alpine or montane habitats.
Gelatinopsis Rambold & Triebel 1990
fungi genus in the helicogoniaceae family
Gelatinopsis is a genus of fungi in the family Helotiaceae; according to the 2007 Outline of Ascomycota, the placement in this family is uncertain. The genus contains 2 species.
Aphanopsidaceae Printzen & Rambold 1995
fungi family in the order lecanorales
Aphanopsidaceae is a family of lichen-forming fungi in the order Lecanorales. It contains the genera Aphanopsis and Steinia, comprising five species. The family was circumscribed in 1995 by the lichenologists Christian Printzen and Gerhard Rambold.
Lichenochora obscuroides (Linds.) Triebel & Rambold 1992
fungi species in the phyllachoraceae family

Rimularia exigua Hertel & Rambold 1990
fungi species in the trapeliaceae family
Rimularia exigua is a species of lichen in the family Trapeliaceae. The type collection was found growing on boulders in a eucalypt forest in New South Wales.
Miriquidica garovaglii (Garovagl's Miriquidica Lichen) (Schaer.) Hertel & Rambold 1987
fungi species in the lecanoraceae family

Miriquidica deusta (Miriquidica Lichen) (Stenh.) Hertel & Rambold 1987
fungi species in the lecanoraceae family
Miriquidica deusta is a species of lichen in the family Lecanoraceae. A North American native, it generally grows on siliceous rocks. It belongs to the subdivision Pezizomycotina of the division Ascomycota, within the order Lecanorales. These are found in both general and Estonian herbariums.
Cecidonia Triebel & Rambold 1988
fungi genus in the lecideaceae family
Cecidonia is a genus of lichenicolous (lichen-dwelling) fungi in the family Lecideaceae. It has two species. These fungi create distinctive white, warty swellings or galls up to 6 mm across on the surface of their rock-dwelling lichen hosts, which then develop small black fruiting bodies. The genus name refers to this gall-forming behaviour, and the two species primarily attack crustose lichens that grow on siliceous rocks.

This rare lichen forms crusty patches that break into small, tile-like sections on rock surfaces in high-elevation mountain environments. It is known only from a few locations in the eastern Alps of Austria and Switzerland, where it grows in extreme alpine conditions. Both the genus and the species were newly described by Gerhard Rambold in 1994.
