Entoloma hochstetteri (Werewere-kokako) (Reichardt) G. Stev. 1962
fungi species in the entolomataceae family
Entoloma hochstetteri, also known as the blue pinkgill, sky-blue mushroom or similar names, is a species of mushroom that is native to New Zealand. The small mushroom is a distinctive all-blue colour, while the gills have a slight reddish tint from the spores. The blue colouring of the fruit body is due to azulene pigments. Whether Entoloma hochstetteri is poisonous or not is unknown. This species was one of six native fungi featured in a set of fungal stamps issued in New Zealand in 2002. It is also featured on the New Zealand fifty-dollar note. With E. hochstetteri's inclusion, this makes
Amanita nothofagi (Southern Beech Amanita) G. Stev. 1962
fungi species in the amanitaceae family
Amanita nothofagi is a species of fungus in the family Amanitaceae. Endemic to New Zealand, the species was first described by mycologist Greta Stevenson in 1962. The fruit bodies have dark brown caps that are up to 13 cm (5.1 in) in diameter and covered with patches of soft greyish-brown scales or warts. The gills underneath the cap are crowded together, free from attachment to the stem, and white, becoming tinged with yellow in age. The stem of the mushroom is 4–14 cm (1.6–5.5 in) long by 0.5–2.5 cm (0.2–1.0 in) thick, and has a ring. The spore print is white, and individual spores are
Amanita australis (Far South Amanita) G. Stev. 1962
fungi species in the amanitaceae family
Amanita australis is a species of fungus in the family Amanitaceae. It produces small- to medium-sized fruit bodies, with brown caps up to 9 centimetres (3+1⁄2 inches) in diameter covered with pyramidal warts. The gills on the underside of the cap are white, closely crowded together, and free from attachment to the stem. The stem, up to 9 cm (3+1⁄2 in) long, has a ring and a bulbous base. The mushroom may be confused with another endemic New Zealand species, A. nothofagi, but can be distinguished by differences in microscopic characteristics. The species was first described by New Zealand
Oudemansiella australis (Porcelain Slimecap) G. Stev. & G.M. Taylor 1964
fungi species in the physalacriaceae family
Oudemansiella australis is a species of gilled mushroom in the family Physalacriaceae. It is found in Australasia, where it grows on rotting wood. It produces fruit bodies that are white, with caps up to 5.5 cm (2.2 in) in diameter, attached to short, thick stems.
Amanita nigrescens (Blackening Amanita) G. Stev. 1962
fungi species in the amanitaceae family
Amanita nigrescens, commonly known as blackening amanita, is a species of fungus in the Amanita genus. It has some similarities to Amanita pekeoides. Amanita nigrescens has a moist, waxy cap with dark-brown warts. It has white gills that are free from the stem. It has white spores and a blackish-brown ring. It has a white volva with yellow-brown tints. Amanita nigrescens is found in New Zealand and grows under Nothofagus trees.
Pleurotus parsonsiae G. Stev. 1964
fungi species in the pleurotaceae family
Pleurotus parsonsiae, also known as velvet oyster mushroom, is a species of edible fungus in the genus Pleurotus, endemic to New Zealand.
Panus purpuratus G. Stev. 1964
fungi species in the panaceae family
Panus purpuratus is a fungus in the family, Panaceae, first described by Greta Stevenson in 1964. The type species was collected from fallen wood in a coastal forest in Waikanae in 1949. The species is endemic to New Zealand.
Mycena minirubra G. Stev. & G.M. Taylor 1964
fungi species in the mycenaceae family
Mycena minirubra is a species of fungus in the family Mycenaceae. Found only in New Zealand, the fungus produces tiny crimson fruit bodies with caps up to 1 mm (0.04 in) in diameter, atop that stems that arise from a basal disk of mycelium.
Mycena mariae G. Stev. 1964
fungi species in the mycenaceae family
Mycena mariae is a species of fungus in the family Mycenaceae. The species was scientifically described by G. Stevenson and effectively published in 1964.
Entoloma haastii G. Stev. 1962
fungi species in the entolomataceae family
Entoloma haastii is a mushroom in the Entolomataceae family. Described as new to science in 1964, it is known only from New Zealand, where it grows on the ground in leaf litter, usually near Nothofagus species.
