Wallemia mellicola S. Jančič, H.D.T. Nguyen, Seifert & Gunde-Cim. 2015
fungi species in the wallemiaceae family
Wallemia mellicola is a xerophilic fungus of the phylum Basidiomycota, described in 2015 upon taxonomic revision of the species Wallemia sebi. A large amount of published research referring to W. sebi was likely actually performed on W. mellicola. An example of this is the sequencing of the W. mellicola genome, which was published under the name of W. sebi. It has a worldwide distribution and is often found in habitats with low accessibility of water, from food preserved with high concentrations of sugar, salt or with drying, to dried straw and house dust. It has rarely been reported as the
Leohumicola levissima H.D.T. Nguyen & Seifert 2008
fungi species in the order helotiales
Leohumicola levissima is a species of fungus. It is named after the smooth walled appearance of its terminal conidial cells (levissima is Latin for "smooth"). It was first found in Crater Lake National Park, Oregon. The terminal cell of this species’ conidia remains smooth even after 3 months’ time, as opposed to the encrusted terminal cells of L. verrucosa and L. incrustata. Conidia of L. atra have similarly smooth terminal cells, but which are darker.
Leohumicola incrustata H.D.T. Nguyen & Seifert 2008
fungi species in the order helotiales
Leohumicola incrustata is a species of fungus. It was named after the appearance of its terminal conidial cells, incrusted with a crust-like slime.
Leohumicola atra H.D.T. Nguyen & Seifert 2008
fungi species in the order helotiales
Leohumicola atra is a species of fungus. It is named after the dark-brown colour of its terminal conidia cells (atra is Latin for "dark"). It was found in Crater Lake National Park, Oregon, from heated soil. This species' conidia terminal cell becomes a darker brown compared to its cogenerate species, being nearly black.
