Karel Bernard Boedijn

Dutch mycologist and botanist (1893–1964).

Karel Bernard Boedijn (29 June 1893 – 29 August 1964) was a Dutch botanist and mycologist who made significant contributions to the study of tropical fungi in the Dutch East Indies (present-day Indonesia). After earning his doctorate from the University of Amsterdam in 1925, he spent three decades in Southeast Asia as a professor and researcher, surviving Japanese internment during World War II when he identified medicinal plants for fellow prisoners. His prolific output of more than 80 scientific papers—covering diverse fungal groups from slime moulds to basidiomycetes and featuring his metic

Helicocephalidaceae Boedijn 1959
fungi family in the order zoopagales
The Helicocephalidaceae are a family of fungi in the Zoopagales order. The family contains 4 genera and 13 species.
Galerina sulciceps (Berk.) Boedijn 1951
toxic fungi species in the hymenogastraceae family
Galerina sulciceps is a dangerously toxic species of fungus in the family Hymenogastraceae, of the order Agaricales. It is distributed in tropical Indonesia and India, but has reportedly been found fruiting in European greenhouses on occasion. More toxic than the deathcap (Amanita phalloides), G. sulciceps has been shown to contain the toxins alpha- (α-), beta- (β-) and gamma- (γ-) amanitin; a series of poisonings in Indonesia in the 1930s resulted in 14 deaths from the consumption of this species. It has a typical "little brown mushroom" appearance, with barely any obvious external
Curvularia Boedijn 1933
fungi genus in the pleosporaceae family
Curvularia is a genus of hyphomycete (mold) fungi which can be pathogens but also act as beneficial partners of many plant species. They are common in soil. Most Curvularia species are found in tropical regions, though a few are found in temperate zones. Curvularia is defined by the type species C. lunata (Wakker) Boedijn. Curvularia lunata appears as shiny velvety-black, fluffy growth (on the fungus colony surface). These fluffy 'hairs', which really are branching, fine filamentous structures called hyphae, are divided inside by cell walls named septae (-> the hyphae are 'septate'). The
Triangularia Boedijn 1934
fungi genus in the podosporaceae family
Triangularia is a genus of fungi in the family Podosporaceae.
Sirobasidium magnum Boedijn 1934
fungi species in the sirobasidiaceae family
Sirobasidium magnum is a species of fungus in the order Tremellales. Basidiocarps (fruit bodies) are gelatinous, lobed to foliose (leaf-like) and appear to be parasitic on ascomycetous fungi on wood. No other Sirobasidium species has such large fruit bodies. The species was originally described from Indonesia, but has been reported from elsewhere in Asia and also in Australia and North America.

fungi genus in the neoschizotheciaceae family
Zygopleurage is a genus of fungi, that was placed within the family Lasiosphaeriaceae, until later analysis placed it within the Neoschizotheciaceae.
Myriodiscus sparassoides (Myriodiscus) Boedijn 1935
fungi species in the tympanidaceae family
Myriodiscus is a genus of fungi in the Helotiales order. The relationship of this taxon to other taxa within the order is unknown (incertae sedis), and it has not yet been placed with certainty into any family. This is a monotypic genus, containing the single species Myriodiscus sparassoides.

fungi species in the pleosporaceae family
Curvularia inaequalis is a plant saprobe that resides in temperate and subtropical environments. It is commonly found in the soils of forage grasses and grains. The species has been observed in a broad distribution of countries including Turkey, France, Canada, The United States, Japan and India. This species is dematiaceous and a hyphomycete.
