Kurt Hjortstam

Swedish mycologist (1933-2009).

Kurt Egon Hjortstam (1933–2009) was a Swedish mycologist, specialising in the taxonomy of corticioid fungi. Kurt Hjortstam received no formal education beyond primary school, but as an adult developed an interest in the vascular plants of Sweden. During an excursion with the Gothenburg Botanical Society he met Prof. John Eriksson who encouraged him to take up the study of corticioid fungi (fungi forming effused fruit bodies on wood). This resulted in the publication of a joint paper in 1969 describing several new species. In 1971 he was engaged as an assistant at the University of Gothenburg t

Boidinia Stalpers & Hjortstam 1982
fungi genus in the russulaceae family
Boidinia is a genus of crust fungi in the family Russulaceae. The genus is widely distributed, and contains 10 species. Boidinia was described in 1982 with the type species Boidinia furfuracea (formerly placed in Gloeocystidiellum). It is named in honor of French mycologist Jacques Boidin. N. Maekawa (1994) wrote: "The genus Boidinia is a satellite genus of Gloeocystidiellum and differs from the latter in forming loose texture in subiculum and globose, echinulate to verrucose basidiospores." Boidinia is probably not monophyletic and needs taxonomical redefinition.
Hypochniciellum Hjortstam & Ryvarden 1980
fungi genus in the atheliaceae family
Hypochniciellum is a genus of corticioid fungi in the family Amylocorticiaceae. Species in the genus have white to cream, resupinate fruit bodies (growing flat, like a crust). The hyphae have clamp connections. The spores are roughly elliptical, yellowish, and smooth.
Amyloxenasma (Oberw.) Hjortstam & Ryvarden 2005
fungi genus in the amylocorticiaceae family
Amyloxenasma is a genus of corticioid fungi in the family Amylocorticiaceae. The widely distributed genus contains six species.

Gloeohypochnicium (Parmasto) Hjortstam 1987
fungi genus
Gloeohypochnicium is a genus of wood-inhabiting crust fungi of uncertain familial placement in the order Russulales. Originally conceived by Erast Parmasto as a subgenus of Hypochnicium, Kurt Hjortstam considered it worthy of distinct generic status in 1987. The type species, G. analogum, was described as new to science in 1913 by French mycologists Hubert Bourdot and Amédée Galzin as a species of Gloeocystidium. G. versatum was added to the genus in 2010.
Gloeocorticium cinerascens (Gloeocorticium) Hjortstam & Ryvarden 1986
fungi species in the cyphellaceae family
Gloeocorticium is a genus of fungi in the Cyphellaceae family. The genus is monotypic, containing the single species Gloeocorticium cinerascens, found in Argentina.
Erythricium J. Erikss. & Hjortstam 1970
fungi genus in the corticiaceae family
Erythricium is a genus of fungi in the family Corticiaceae. Basidiocarps (fruit bodies) are effused, corticioid, and grow on wood or are lichenicolous. Erythricium salmonicolor is a widespread and commercially significant plant pathogen causing "pink disease" of Citrus and other trees.
Cystidiodontia Hjortstam 1983
fungi genus in the cystostereaceae family
Cystidiodontia is a genus of toothed crust fungi in the family Cystostereaceae.
Brevicellicium olivascens (Bres.) K.H. Larss. & Hjortstam 1978
fungi species in the hydnodontaceae family
Brevicellicium olivascens is a species of crust-forming fungus in the family Hydnodontaceae that grows as thin, olive-tinted patches on decaying wood. First described by the Italian mycologist Giacomo Bresadola in 1892 as Odontia olivascens, it was later reclassified in 1978 by the Swedish mycologists Karl-Henrik Larsson and Erik Hjortstam, who created the new genus Brevicellicium (meaning "short cells") to accommodate it. This inconspicuous fungus forms delicate, web-like films only 0.1–0.3 millimetres thick that appear greyish-olive to olive-brown when fresh, becoming papery when dry, and
Brevicellicium K.H. Larss. & Hjortstam 1978
fungi genus in the hydnodontaceae family
Brevicellicium is a genus of fungi in the family Hydnodontaceae. The genus has a collectively widespread distribution, and contains 13 species.

Amyloathelia Hjortstam & Ryvarden 1979
fungi genus in the amylocorticiaceae family
Amyloathelia is a genus of fungi in the family Amylocorticiaceae. The genus contains three species distributed in Europe and South America.
Uncobasidium Hjortstam & Ryvarden 1978
fungi genus in the meruliaceae family
Uncobasidium is a genus of two species of crust fungi in the Meruliaceae family . The genus was circumscribed by mycologists Kurt Hjorstam and Leif Ryvarden in 1978 with the European fungus U. luteolum as the type species. The South American species U. roseocremeum was added to the genus in 2012. The distinguishing feature of Uncobasidium is the basal hook in the basidium.
Skvortzovia Bononi & Hjortstam 1987
fungi genus
Skvortzovia is a fungal genus of unknown placement in the class Agaricomycetes. It is a monotypic genus, containing the single species Skvortzovia furfurella, found in the United States. This crust fungus was originally described by Italian mycologist Giacomo Bresadola in 1925 as Odontia furfurella. Vera Lúcia Bononi and Kurt Hjortstam circumscribed Skvortzovia in Mycotaxon vol.28 on page 12 in 1987 to contain the species. The genus name honours botanist Boris Skvortzov (1896–1980), who was a Polish-Russian-Brazilian botanist (Algology and Mycology) and collected crust fungi extensively in
