Paul Diederich (born 4 May 1959) is a Luxembourgish mathematics teacher and mycologist who specialises in lichenicolous fungi (fungi that live on lichens). Since 1986 he has taught mathematics at the École de Commerce et de Gestion in Luxembourg, and from 1989 to 2008 he served as a research associate at the country's National Museum of Natural History. He has authored more than 190 publications, including major monographs and collaborative volumes, and his work has been recognised with awards such as the Van Rompaey Award (1991) and the Tuckerman Award (2004 and 2019).

Tremella normandinae Diederich 1996
fungi species in the tremellaceae family
Tremella normandinae is a species of lichenicolous (lichen-dwelling) fungus in the family Tremellaceae. The species was described as new to science based on material collected in Hawaii. The holotype specimen is preserved in the Botanische Staatssammlung München (herbarium code M) under accession number M 4837. The only known collection comes from the lichen Normandina pulchella growing on dead Acacia koa trees in sunny exposures in Hawaii. Infection by the fungus results in the formation of pale galls on the host lichen.

Marchandiomyces Diederich & D. Hawksw. 1990
fungi genus in the corticiaceae family
Marchandiomyces is a genus of fungi in the family Corticiaceae. Marchandiomyces is named in honour of Louis (Ludwig) Marchand (1807-1843), who was a Luxembourger veterinarian, mycologist, lichenologist, and author. Marchandiomyces corallinus is a lichenicolous species especially found on lichens of the genus Parmelia. Other species are lignicolous, forming inconspicuous, effused basidiocarps (fruit bodies) on wood.
Lichenoconium reichlingii Diederich 1986
fungi species in the lichenoconiaceae family
Lichenoconium reichlingii is a species of lichenicolous (lichen-dwelling) fungus in the family Lichenoconiaceae. The fungus causes distinctive symptoms on its host, beginning as black patches that develop into pale spots with sharp dark margins as the infection progresses. It is known from Luxembourg and surrounding areas of north-western Europe, where it inhabits the bark-dwelling lichen Ramalina fraxinea.
Fellhanera gyrophorica Sérus., Coppins, Diederich & Scheid. 2001
fungi species in the byssolomataceae family
Fellhanera gyrophorica is a corticolous species in the family Ectolechiaceae. Previously noted in several publications as an unidentified Fellhanera species, it was formally named and described due to its unique characteristics and lack of ascomata (fruiting bodies).
Burgella Diederich & Lawrey 2007
fungi genus in the hydnaceae family
Burgella is a genus of fungi in the family Clavulinaceae. The genus is monotypic, containing the single species Burgella flavoparmeliae, described in 2007. The genus name of Burgella is in honour of Pietro Benedetto Luigi Burgo (1876-1964), an Italian electrical and industrial engineer. The genus was circumscribed by Paul Diederich and James D. Lawrey in Biblioth. Lichenol. Vol.107 on page 22 in 2007.
