Phaeophyscia (Wreath Lichen) Moberg 1977
fungi genus in the physciaceae family
Phaeophyscia is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Physciaceae. These lichens typically appear as leaf-like (foliose) growths that spread across tree bark, rocks, or other surfaces, usually in well-lit, nutrient-rich environments. Their structure consists of short or long lobes that range in colour from pale grey to dark brown, becoming dark green when wet, and they often have dark undersides with root-like attachments (rhizines). The genus is distinguished from its relatives by its unique chemical composition and reproductive features, lacking a substance called atranorin and
Waynea Moberg 1990
fungi genus in the ramalinaceae family
Waynea is a genus of lichen-forming fungi in the family Ramalinaceae. The genus was established in 1990 by the Swedish lichenologist Roland Moberg and named after the Wayne family who helped organize his collecting trip to California, where he collected the type species. The tiny lichens in Waynea form patches made up of scale-like lobes less than half a millimetre across, with powdery cushions that help them spread without sexual reproduction. The genus contains six species. Most records are from southern and western Europe, particularly around the Mediterranean region, but it has also been

Phaeophyscia endophoenicea (Harm.) Moberg 1977
fungi species in the physciaceae family
Phaeophyscia endophoenicea is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling) foliose lichen in the family Physciaceae. It is characterized by a grey to pale brown rosette-forming thallus that grows 1–3 cm wide. It features narrow lobes with yellowish to reddish powdery reproductive structures called soredia, and a distinctive black lower surface with abundant root-like rhizines that anchor it to its substrate. The lichen's inner tissue (medulla) is typically yellow to orange-red in its lower part. Though rare and possibly underreported, P. endophoenicea primarily grows on the bark of slanting trees
Waynea californica Moberg 1990
fungi species in the ramalinaceae family
Waynea californica is a species of lichen in the family Ramalinaceae. This rare lichen forms small, scale-like patches on oak tree trunks, with an olive-green to brownish-green surface that develops distinctive cup-shaped structures filled with powdery reproductive material. It is known primarily from California, particularly around Big Sur and the Santa Lucia Mountains, with rare reports also from Washington State, where it grows on solitary oak trees in relatively open areas.

Physcia cinerea Moberg 1990
fungi species in the physciaceae family
Physcia cinerea is a species of saxicolous (rock-dwelling), foliose lichen in the family Physciaceae. It was described as a new species in 1990 by the Swedish lichenologist Roland Moberg. The lichen is found in Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela at elevations between 2,500 and 4,000 m (8,200 and 13,100 ft), typically on sun-exposed rocks in páramo habitat. It has an orbicular to irregularly shaped thallus up to 3 cm in diameter, comprising narrow lobes up to 1 mm wide. The thallus is grey to dark grey, while the underside is white to brownish, with abundant rhizines of the same colour.

Phaeophyscia sciastra (Dark Shadow Lichen) (Ach.) Moberg 1977
fungi species in the physciaceae family
Phaeophyscia sciastra, commonly known as the dark shadow lichen or the five o'clock shadow, is a widespread species of foliose lichen in the family Physciaceae. This rock-dwelling species tend to form rosettes on sun-exposed rocks, especially sandstone. The thalli, which grow up to 5 cm (2.0 in) in diameter and are closely attached to their substrate, are made of flat to convex lobes typically up to 0.5 mm wide. The lichen occurs in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, and is one of the most widespread members of its genus in boreal and subtropical regions. In Nepal, P. sciastra has been
