British botanist (1835-1917).

Worthington George Smith (25 March 1835 – 27 October 1917) was an English cartoonist and illustrator, antiquarian, archaeologist, plant pathologist, and mycologist. Originally trained as an architect he moved to illustration and began to study and draw fungi, particularly those affecting crop plants. In the 1870s he took a special interest in archaeology, studying stone tools and other human remains. He also studied the history of Dunstable, serving as freeman of the Borough.

Lepista (Blewits) (Fr.) W.G. Sm. 1870
fungi genus in the tricholomataceae family
Lepista is a genus of mushroom-forming fungi. According to the Dictionary of the Fungi (10th edition, 2008), the widespread genus contains approximately 50 species. In 1969, Howard Bigelow and Alex H. Smith designated the group as subgenus of Clitocybe. A genetic study conducted in 2015 revealed that the genera Collybia and Lepista were closely related to the core clade of Clitocybe. However, all three genera were found to be polyphyletic, with several members located in lineages distinct from other members within the same genus. Instead, they were more closely related to members of the other

Tubaria (Twiglets) (W.G. Sm.) Gillet 1876
fungi genus in the tubariaceae family
Tubaria is a genus of fungi in the family Tubariaceae. The genus is widely distributed, especially in temperate regions. Tubaria was originally named as a subgenus of Agaricus by Worthington George Smith in 1870. Claude Casimir Gillet promoted it to generic status in 1876. The mushrooms produced by species in this genus are small- to medium-sized with caps ranging in color from pale pinkish-brown to reddish-brown, and often with remnants of the partial veil adhering to the margin. Mushrooms fruit on rotting wood, or, less frequently, in the soil. There are no species in the genus that are
Deconica (W.G. Sm.) P. Karst. 1879
fungi genus in the strophariaceae family
Deconica is a genus of mushroom-forming fungi in the family Strophariaceae. It was formerly considered synonymous with Psilocybe until molecular studies showed that genus to be polyphyletic, made of two major clades: one containing bluing, hallucinogenic species, the other non-bluing and non-hallucinogenic species. Deconica contains species formerly classified in the sections Deconica and Coprophila of Psilocybe.

Melastiza chateri (W.G. Sm.) Boud. 1907
fungi species in the pyronemataceae family
Melastiza chateri is a species of apothecial fungus belonging to the family Pyronemataceae. This European species appears all year as smooth, dull orange-red disks up to 15 mm in diameter on damp sandy soil.
Chamaeota (W.G. Sm.) Earle 1909
fungi genus in the pluteaceae family
Chamaeota is a genus in the Pluteaceae family of small- to medium-sized mushrooms. They have a central stipe, free gills, smooth pink spores, and a partial veil that usually forms an annulus (ring) on the stipe. Chamaeota can be distinguished from Volvariella by its lack of a volva and from Entolomataceae by its free gills and smooth spores. Members of Chamaeota are extremely rare. Most species are tropical but at least two species exist in the United States. The type species is Chamaeota xanthogramma (Ces.) Earle [as 'xanthogrammus'] (1909).
