Summary

Microlicia is a genus of flowering plants in the family Melastomataceae, native to northern South America, particularly Brazil. They tend to be subshrubs. Microlicia was first described by David Don in 1823. In 2021 Versiane et al. discovered that Microlicia was paraphyletic, and expended it to include the related genera Chaetostoma, Lavoisiera, Stenodon, and Trembleya. The newly circumscribed genus, with 276 species, is one of the largest in family Melastomataeae.
