Alexander von Lingelsheim

German botanist and mycologist (1874–1937).

Alexander von Lingelsheim (27 September 1874, in Arolsen – 5 March 1937, in Breslau) was a German botanist and pharmacist. He studied natural sciences at the University of Breslau, and for many years he worked as an assistant in its botanical garden and museum (1904–29). In the meantime, he received his PhD from the University of Rostock (1906) and later taught classes at the Technische Hochschule Breslau (from 1910). Together with Rudolph Dittrich and Ferdinand Albin Pax he worked also in the field of cecidology (studying plant galls) and coedited the exsiccata series Herbarium cecidiologicum

Fraxinus uhdei, commonly known as tropical ash or Shamel ash, is a species of tree native to Mexico and Central America. It is commonly planted as a street tree in Mexico and the southwestern United States. It has also been planted and spread from cultivation in Hawaii, where it is now considered an invasive species. Like other species in the section Melioides, Fraxinus uhdei is dioecious, with male and female flowers produced on separate individuals.

A tree reaching 20 m (66 ft), it is found in forested valley slopes, usually from 400 to 1,100 m (1,300 to 3,600 ft) above sea level. In the wild it is heavily infected with Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, the fungal pathogen that causes ash dieback, but shows little damage.
