Chris Humphries

British botanist (1947-2009).

Christopher J. Humphries FLS (Derby, 29 April 1947 – 31 July 2009) was a British botanist known for his work on systematic botany and biogeography. In 1980, he was awarded the Bicentenary Medal of the Linnean Society. In 2001 the Linnean Society of London awarded him the Linnean Medal for his contributions to the botany. The standard author abbreviation Humphries is used to indicate this person as the author when citing a botanical name.

Nivellea is a monotypic genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Asteraceae. The only species is Nivellea nivellei. It is native to Morocco. The genus name of Nivellea is in honour of Robert Nivelle (1856–1924), a French artillery general officer who served in the Boxer Rebellion, and the First World War. The Latin specific epithet of nivellei also refers to Robert Nivelle. Both the genus and the species were first described and published in Bull. Nat. Hist. Mus. (London), Bot. Vol.23 on page 140 in 1993.

Rhodanthemum hosmariense, the Moroccan daisy, is a species of flowering plant in the family Asteraceae, native to the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. It is a bushy, prostrate subshrub growing to 30 cm (12 in) tall and broad, with deeply divided silvery leaves and solitary, daisy-like, composite flower-heads in summer. It is suitable for cultivation in an alpine garden or alpine house, where it is useful as groundcover. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Artemisia orientalixizangensis is a rare Tibetan species of plants in the sunflower family. It is found only in eastern and southeastern Tibet. Artemisia orientalixizangensis is a perennial herb up to 40 cm (16 inches) tall. Inflorescence is a tall, narrow, spike-like panicle of small flower heads. The plant grows on slopes and roadsides at mid-elevations in the mountains. The epithet "orientalixizangensis" is from Latin "orientalis" meaning "eastern" and "Xizang", the Chinese name for Tibet.
