Sairocarpus nuttallianus (Violet Snapdragon) (Benth.) D.A.Sutton 1988
annual plant species in the plantaginaceae family
Sairocarpus nuttallianus, commonly known as Nuttall's snapdragon or violet snapdragon, is a species of New World snapdragon. It is native to southern California and Baja California, where it can be found from the immediate coastline to the inland coastal ranges.
Nuttallanthus (Toadflax) D.A.Sutton 1988
plant genus in the plantaginaceae family
Nuttallanthus is a genus of four species of herbaceous annuals and perennials that was traditionally placed in the foxglove family Scrophulariaceae. Due to new genetic research, it has now been placed in the vastly expanded family Plantaginaceae. Three species of Nuttallanthus are native to North America and one to South America. Nuttallanthus was until the 1980s included in a wider circumscription of the genus Linaria, a genus now considered restricted to the Old World.
Sairocarpus virga (Twig-like Snapdragon) (A.Gray) D.A.Sutton 1988
perennial plant species in the plantaginaceae family
Sairocarpus virga (syn. Antirrhinum virga) is a species of New World snapdragon known by the common name tall snapdragon. It is endemic to the North Coast Ranges of northern California, where it grows in rocky chaparral, sometimes on serpentine soils. This is a hairless perennial herb producing erect, non-climbing stems from a woody caudex. The inflorescence is a raceme atop the stem filled loosely with pink snapdragon flowers. Each flower is between one and two centimeters long.
Sairocarpus vexillocalyculatus (Wiry Snapdragon) (Kellogg) D.A.Sutton 1988
annual plant species in the plantaginaceae family
Sairocarpus vexillocalyculatus (syn. Antirrhinum vexillocalyculatum) is a species of New World snapdragon found only in California and occasionally Oregon. This wildflower is known by several common names, including wiry snapdragon, sailflower snapdragon, and Brewer's snapdragon. The plant twines along other plants or objects with its branchlets. It produces lavender snapdragon flowers 1 to 2 centimeters wide. The flower has a prominent lower lip and it may be streaked with darker purple. This species is most abundant in the low-elevation mountains of northern and central California, where it
Sairocarpus multiflorus (Sierra Snapdragon) D.A.Sutton 1988
annual and perennial plant species in the plantaginaceae family
Sairocarpus multiflorus (syn. Antirrhinum multiflorum) is a species of New World snapdragon known by the common name Sierra snapdragon or multi-flowered snapdragon. It is endemic to California, where it is known from the central Coast Ranges, the Transverse Ranges, and one section of the Sierra Nevada foothills. It grows on lower-elevation mountain slopes and springs up in disturbed and recently burned areas. This is an annual or perennial herb producing a hairy, erect stem which often has a woody base. It does not cling or climb like some other snapdragon species. Small, pointed leaves are
Sairocarpus coulterianus (Coulter's Snapdragon) (Benth.) D.A.Sutton 1988
annual plant species in the plantaginaceae family
Sairocarpus coulterianus (syn. Antirrhinum coulterianum) is a species of New World snapdragon known by the common name Coulter's snapdragon. Anterrhinum coulterianum is a host species for the Edith's checkerspot butterfly.
Nuttallanthus canadensis (Old-field Toadflax) (L.) D.A.Sutton 1988
annual plant species in the plantaginaceae family
Nuttallanthus canadensis, the blue toadflax, Canada toadflax, or old-field toadflax, is a species of Nuttallanthus in the family Plantaginaceae, native to eastern North America from Ontario east to Nova Scotia and south to Texas and Florida.
Nuttallanthus texanus (Texas Toadflax) (Scheele) D.A.Sutton 1988
annual plant species in the plantaginaceae family
Nuttallanthus texanus, the Texas toadflax, is an annual to biennial plant in the veronica family found across much of the western United States. It can often be seen in patches along roadsides. Its inflorescence is raceme.

Sairocarpus cornutus (Spurred Snapdragon) (Benth.) D.A.Sutton 1988
annual plant species in the plantaginaceae family
Sairocarpus cornutus, synonym Antirrhinum cornutum, is an uncommon species of New World flowering plant in the family Plantaginaceae, known by the common name spurred snapdragon. It is endemic to northern California, where it grows in the inland mountains and the northern reaches of the Central Valley. This is an annual herb producing hairy, erect, non-climbing stems. Solitary flowers grow in the leaf axils along the stem. Each hairy-lipped flower is purple-veined white and about a centimeter long.
