Niphidium crassifolium (Graceful Fern) (L.) Lellinger 1972
plant species in the polypodiaceae family
Niphidium crassifolium, commonly known as the graceful fern, is a species of fern in the family Polypodiaceae found in Central and South America. It is predominantly epiphytic, growing on other plants—for example, in the canopies of trees—but occasionally grows on rocks or on the ground, particularly at higher altitude. It has a rhizome from which many fine rootlets covered in dark reddish-brown scales grow. Together they form a root basket that, when growing on trees, helps to trap leaf litter and dust, forming a nutrient-rich soil that holds water. Its leaves are simple in shape, 13–85
Aspidotis densa (Indian's Dream) (Brack.) Lellinger 1968
plant species in the pteridaceae family
Aspidotis densa is a species of fern in the Cheilanthoid subfamily, known by the common name Indian's dream or Serpentine fern or dense lace fern. It is native to the west coast of North America from British Columbia to California and east to the Rocky Mountains in Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming; there is a disjunct population on serpentine soils in Quebec.
Aspidotis carlottahalliae (Tufted Lacefern) (W.H.Wagner & E.F.Gilbert) Lellinger 1968
plant species in the pteridaceae family
Aspidotis carlotta-halliae is a species of perennial fern known by the common names tufted lacefern and Carlotta Hall's lace fern. It is endemic to California, where it is found in the Central Coast Ranges and coastal hillsides, often on serpentine soils. This species is a fertile hybrid between Aspidotis californica and Aspidotis densa. The fern was named for fern collector Carlotta Case Hall, who coauthored the 1912 botanical guide A Yosemite Flora with her husband, botanist Harvey Monroe Hall.
