Rubus severus (Harsh Dewberry) Brainerd ex Fernald 1931
plant species in the rosaceae family
Rubus severus is an uncommon North American species of flowering plant in the rose family. It is found in eastern Canada (Nova Scotia) and the northeastern and north-central United States (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island). The genetics of Rubus is extremely complex, so that it is difficult to decide on which groups should be recognized as species. There are many rare species with limited ranges such as this. Further study is suggested to clarify the taxonomy. Some studies have suggested that R. severus may have originated as a hybrid between R. setosus and R. flagellaris.
Rubus sceleratus (Androscoggin Blackberry) Brainerd ex Fernald 1949
plant species in the rosaceae family
Rubus is a large and diverse genus of flowering plants in the rose family, Rosaceae, subfamily Rosoideae, most commonly known as brambles. Fruits of various species are known as raspberries, blackberries, dewberries, cloudberries, and bristleberries. It is a diverse genus, and estimates of the number of Rubus species vary from 250 to over 1000, found across all continents except Antarctica. Most of these plants have woody stems with prickles like roses; spines, bristles, and gland-tipped hairs are also common in the genus. The Rubus fruit, sometimes called a bramble fruit, is an aggregate of
