Stapelia grandiflora is a species of flowering plant in the genus Stapelia of the family Apocynaceae. It is commonly referred to as the carrion plant, starfish flower, giant toad plant, or starfish cactus, although it is not related to cacti at all. This "carrion plant" nickname can also refer to similar Stapelia species as well as members of related genera, including Stapelia gigantea and Orbea variegata. Stapelia grandiflora sometimes also goes by the name of Stapelia flavirostris. The plant is native to South Africa, including the Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, and Free State.

Hoodia gordonii, also known as Bushman's hat, is a leafless spiny succulent plant claimed to have therapeutic properties in folk medicine. It grows naturally in Botswana, South Africa and Namibia. The species became internationally known and threatened by collectors, after a marketing campaign falsely claimed that it was an appetite suppressant for weight loss. The flowers smell like rotten meat and are pollinated mainly by flies. The indigenous San people of the Namib desert call this plant ǁhoba (pronounced [kǁʰɔbɑ] – the initial sound is a lateral click).

Huernia guttata is a species of flowering plant in the family Apocynaceae, native to the southern Cape Provinces of South Africa. A succulent, it has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.

Duvalia caespitosa is a species of flowering plant in the family Apocynaceae. It is a small succulent subshrub native to the Cape Provinces and Free State of South Africa and to southern Lesotho.

Tridentea gemmiflora ("twin-flowered tridentea") is a species of plant in the family Apocynaceae. It is endemic to South Africa and is common in the Little Karoo and Western Cape Province. Its natural habitats are rocky areas.
