François Hérincq

French botanist and gardener (1820–1891).

François Hérincq (French pronunciation: [fʁɑ̃swa eʁɛ̃k]; 4 June 1820 – 15 June 1891) was a French botanist and gardener at the Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. He was also the editor of "L'Horticulteur français, journal des amateurs et des intérêts horticoles", which was published from 1851-1872, illustrating some 414 plants. The botanical genus Herincquia (family Gesneriaceae) is named in his honor.

Phormium colensoi (syn. Phormium cookianum – see below), also called mountain flax, or wharariki in Māori, is a perennial plant that is endemic to New Zealand. The greenish, yellow or orange flowers are followed by twisted seed pods. It is less common than the other Phormium species, P. tenax or harakeke. Mountain flax is also known as whararipi, whatariki, mangaeka, kōrari tuauru (Williams 1971), wauraki (Bell 1890 sic.), coastal flax, hill flax and lesser New Zealand flax.

Crataegus × lavalleei, sometimes known as hybrid cockspurthorn or Lavallée's hawthorn, is a hybrid that arose between cultivated specimens of two species in the genus Crataegus (Hawthorn). It is an ornamental small tree with glossy dark green unlobed leaves that is used horticulturally. The female parent was C. mexicana (sometimes mistakenly called C. pubescens), and the male parent is thought to be C. calpodendron (which is sometimes mistakenly called C. crus-galli).
