perennial plant species in the rafflesiaceae family
Rafflesia schadenbergiana is a parasitic plant species in the family Rafflesiaceae, endemic to the island of Mindanao in the Philippines. It has the largest flower among the Rafflesia species found in the Philippines, with a diameter of 52–80 cm (20–30 in). It has also the second largest flower in the genus after R. arnoldii. This species was first collected in the vicinity of Mount Apo on Mindanao, during an expedition led by Alexander Schadenberg and Otto Koch in 1882. It was not seen for more than a century and was assumed to be extinct until Pascal Lays found a specimen of this species in
Prosopis nigra (Black Mesquite) (Griseb.) Hieron. 1881
plant species in the fabaceae family
Neltuma nigra (formerly Prosopis nigra) is a South American leguminous tree species that inhabits the Gran Chaco ecoregion (in particular, the transition zone between the Wet Chaco and the Southern Chaco), in Argentina and Paraguay. It is known as algarrobo negro in Spanish, which means "black carob tree" (the Spanish settlers gave it that name, as they did with many other species of genus Prosopis, because of its similarity to the European carob tree). It is also variously called algarrobo dulce, algarrobo morado and algarrobo amarillo ("sweet", "purple" and "yellow" carob tree,
Amaranthus muricatus (African Amaranth) (Moq.) Hieron. 1881
annual and perennial plant species in the amaranthaceae family

It is an invasive species in Africa, Europe and Australia, and to a lesser degree in North America and Asia. It is a decumbent perennial that does well in arid climates. A. muricatus may grow to about 60 cm tall. Its glabrous leaves are linear to lanceolate, about 2-5 cm long, with long petioles. Small flowers are produced on compact, pyramidal panicles. These flowers, which appear in summer and fall, produce wrinkled achenes, about 2 mm

Selaginella wallacei (Wallace's Spike-moss) Hieron. 1900
plant species in the selaginellaceae family
Selaginella wallacei is a species of spikemoss known by the common name Wallace's spikemoss. It is native to western North America from British Columbia to California to Montana, where it can be found in many types of habitat, including open and shaded areas, and wet to dry environments, often growing on and over rocks. This lycophyte is variable in appearance, its form depending on the habitat it grows in. It can be spreading with many narrow branches, or a small, dense mat. The forking stems grow up to about 25 centimeters long, but may remain much shorter in dry conditions. They are lined
Selaginella moellendorffii (Gemmiferous Spikemoss) Hieron. 1901
medicinal plant species in the selaginellaceae family
Selaginella moellendorffii is a lycophyte that is an important model organism, especially in comparative genomics. S. moellendorffii is a member of an ancient vascular plant lineage that first appeared in the fossil record some 400 million years ago. They would later form a dominant part of the world's flora during the Carboniferous period. They have a number of unusual and/or "primitive" features, such as rudimentary leaves (microphylls), ubiquitous dichotomous branching, heterospory, and the ligule. As the earliest diverging group of modern vascular plants, they are essential to
