Gustav Heynhold

German botanist (1800-1860).

Gustav Heynhold (or Gustav Heinhold; 1800–1860) was a German botanist who worked at the botanic gardens of Dresden and Frankfurt. In 1828 he was in Trieste where he carried out mapping and published "Uebersicht der Vegetation in den Umgebungen Triest's; von Hrn. Gustav Heynhold zu Dresden." His best-known work was the Nomenclator Botanicus Hortensis, an index of the botanical names of garden plants. It is not certain whether he had an academic degree or title. In 1846 the "Botanischen Centralblatt für Deutschland" listed him as a private scholar in Dresden. In total he was responsible for nami

Arabidopsis thaliana (Mouseear Cress) (L.) Heynh. 1842
annual plant species in the brassicaceae family
Arabidopsis thaliana, the thale cress, mouse-ear cress or arabidopsis, is a small plant from the mustard family (Brassicaceae), native to Eurasia and Africa. Commonly found along the shoulders of roads and in disturbed land, it is generally considered a weed. A winter annual with a relatively short lifecycle, A. thaliana is a popular model organism in plant biology and genetics. For a complex multicellular eukaryote, A. thaliana has a relatively small genome of around 135 megabase pairs. It was the first plant to have its genome sequenced, and is an important tool for understanding the
Arabidopsis (Rockcress) Heynh. 1842
plant genus in the brassicaceae family
Arabidopsis (rockcress) is a genus of small flowering plants in the cabbage and mustard family, Brassicaceae. Arabidopsis species are native to temperate and subarctic Eurasia and North America, North Africa, and the mountains of eastern tropical Africa. This genus is of great interest since it contains thale cress (Arabidopsis thaliana), one of the model organisms used for studying plant biology and the first plant to have its entire genome sequenced. Changes in thale cress are easily observed, making it a very useful model.
Acronychia oblongifolia (White Aspen) Endl. ex Heynh. 1846
plant species in the rutaceae family
Acronychia oblongifolia, commonly known as white aspen or yellow wood, is a species of shrub to medium-sized rainforest tree of the citrus family, Rutaceae, and is endemic to eastern Australia. It has mostly simple, egg-shaped leaves with the narrower end towards the base, small groups of creamy-white flowers and fleshy, more or less spherical, edible fruit.
Spergularia macrotheca (Sticky Sandspurry) (Hornem. ex Cham. & Schltdl.) Heynh. 1847
perennial plant species in the caryophyllaceae family
Spergularia macrotheca is a species of flowering plant in the family Caryophyllaceae known by the common name sticky sandspurry. It is native to western North America from British Columbia to Baja California, where it grows in many types of moist coastal and inland habitat, often in alkaline and saline substrates. It may be found in marshes, alkali flats, beaches, meadows, seeps, and vernal pools. It is a perennial herb producing a narrow stem up to 40 centimeters (16 in) long with a woody, thickened base and taproot. They may grow erect or prostrate across the ground. It is covered in sticky
Kunzea capitata (Pink Kunzea) (Sm.) Heynh. 1846
plant species in the myrtaceae family
Kunzea capitata is a shrub species in the family Myrtaceae. It is native to New South Wales in Australia.
Kunzea ericifolia (Sm.) Heynh. 1846
plant species in the myrtaceae family
Kunzea ericifolia, commonly known as spearwood, native tree or yellow kunzea, or as kitja boorn, poorndil or condil by the Noongar people, is an erect woody evergreen shrub that is endemic to Western Australia. It has soft green linear leaves and spherical heads of usually yellow flowers in spring.

Hormidium Lindl. ex Heynh. 1841
plant genus in the prasiolaceae family
Within the Orchidaceae, Hormidium was originally a subgenus of the genus Epidendrum, but was later raised to a full genus. It is now considered not to be distinct from the genus Prosthechea, of which it is a synonym. Most of the species of Hormidium have been transferred to Prosthechea, although others are now classified in Encyclia, Epidendrum, Homalopetalum, and Lepanthes.
