Stipagrostis uniplumis (Afrikaans: blinkaar-boesmangras) is a perennial grass belonging to the grass family (Poaceae). It is the most common of the Stipagrostis species and occurs in most of the arid parts of Africa as far north as Senegal and Somalia. It is essentially not a good grazing grass with its tough, wiry leaves, it is relatively well grazed in very dry regions and distributed areas, where it can dominate.

Romulea tortuosa is a herbaceous perennial geophyte in the family Iridaceae native to South Africa. It has a small corm in the soil, a few prostrate coiling leaves, and fragrant, trimerous yellow flowers, sometimes with six brown blotches on the inside near the bottom of the flower.

Pogonarthria squarrosa, the sickle grass or cross grass, is a species of perennial grass that is native to tropical, East and southern Africa. It is a hard and unpalatable pioneer grass with very low grazing value.
