Max Hirmer

German publisher and botanist (1893-1981).

Max Hirmer (1893-1981) was a German botanist, publisher and photographer. Hirmer was born on 14 April 1893 in Straubing. After graduating from the Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1913, he studied archaeology, art history and natural sciences. Hirmer received his doctorate from the University of Munich in 1917 and his habilitation in 1922. He was an adjunct professor in Munich from 1928 but was dismissed by the Nazis in 1936 for political reasons. Hirmer died on 17 April 1981, 88 years old.
