Russell Edwin Spangler

The Puelioideae is a subfamily of the true grass family Poaceae with two genera, Guaduella and Puelia, each in its own tribe. Its members grow in the understory of rainforests. This subfamily is one of the earliest-diverging grass lineages, sister to the big BOP and PACMAD clades:

Sarga versicolor is a grass found to be closely related to the Sachrinae group or newly 're-defined' ‘Saccharum complex’ including Sarga and Sorghastrum based on phylogeny, even able to interbreed with some members. This species is found in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Chad, Ethiopia, Kenya, KwaZulu-Natal, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Northern Provinces, Oman, Somalia, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

Sarga trichoclada or Sorghum trichocladum (changed to Sarga based on phylogenetic work) is a perennial grass with a seasonally dry tropical biome habitat, with a distribution from West to South Mexico to Honduras. It belongs to the phylum of Angiosperms.
