Sesbania drummondii, known as poisonbean, rattlebox and rattlebush, is a medium-sized perennial shrub in the legume family Fabaceae. It is native to the southeastern United States, from Texas east to Florida. These woody-based shrubs grow from 1–3 metres (3.3–9.8 ft) tall. It is usually much branched in the upper portion. Branches are thin and widely spreading. The medium green leaves are alternate, deciduous, and pinnately compound. There are typically 12-24 leaflets, and occasionally as many as 60 are found. Dalea neomexicana, the downy prairie clover, is a perennial plant in the legume family (Fabaceae) found in the Sonoran Desert and grasslands of southeastern Arizona to western Texas and into Mexico. Its common name refers to its silky hairs covering it. It is a perennial herb growing up to 8 in (20 cm) tall.

Streptanthus cutleri, known as Cutler's jewelflower, is a species of annual flower only found in the Big Bend region of Texas. Its specific epithet and common name both reference Hugh Carson Cutler, who first collected the plant in 1937. A second specimen was later collected when the plant was in fruit, and this holotype was collected at the exact location as the first specimen, in Maravillas Canyon near Black Gap. Its distinguishing characteristic is that only two petals of each its flowers is enlarged.

Palafoxia riograndensis, the Rio Grande palafox or Rio Grande Spanish needles, is a plant species native to Texas, Chihuahua and Coahuila. It is named for the Rio Grande which separates Texas from Mexico. The plant grows in sandy and silty soils at elevations of 50–200 m (160–660 ft). Palafoxia riograndensis is an annual herb up to 60 cm (24 in) tall. Flowering heads have no ray flowers but 8-25 pink, purple or white disc flowers.

Monarda maritima, the seaside beebalm, is a species of flowering plant in the family Lamiaceae. It is endemic to deep sandy soils of the Coastal Bend of Texas. A perennial herb, it can reach 3 ft (0.9 m), sometimes taller.
