plant class in the phylum bryophyta
Andreaeaceae is a family of mosses which includes two genera, Andreaea, containing about 100 species, and the genus Acroschisma. The Andreaeaceae prefer rocky habitats ranging from tropical to arctic climates, on which they form tufted colonies, typically with reddish to blackish shoots. The capsules lack the peristome mechanism and dehisce longitudinally to release the spores, resulting in a paper-lantern appearance. It was named by Jakob Friedrich Ehrhart in honour of his friend J.G.R. Andreae.
Huperzia serrata (Toothed Clubmoss) (Thunb.) Trevis. 1874
medicinal plant species in the lycopodiaceae family
Huperzia serrata, the toothed clubmoss, is a plant known as a firmoss. The species is native to eastern Asia (China, Tibet, Japan, the Korean peninsula, the Russian Far East). It is also found in the main islands of Hawaii with the exception of Maui, but is considered vulnerable by NatureServe.
Huperzia lucidula (Shining Firmoss) (Michx.) Trevis. 1875
plant species in the lycopodiaceae family
Huperzia lucidula (also called the shining firmoss or shining clubmoss) is a bright, evergreen, rhizomatous clubmoss of the genus Huperzia. They grow in loose tufts 14–20 cm long, occasionally up to 1 m long. The leaves are 7–11 mm long (shorter, 3–6 mm, at annual nodes) and narrow, lance-shaped, shiny, and evergreen. The edges are irregularly “toothed” with small serrations. The sporangia (spore cases) are nestled in the bases of the upper leaves. The roots of this plant grow from a creeping and branching underground rhizome. The shining firmoss is found in Canada from Manitoba in the west
