Wilhelm Olbers Focke

German physician and botanist (1834–1922).

Wilhelm Olbers Focke (5 April 1834, Bremen – 29 September 1922, Bremen) was a medical doctor and botanist who in 1881 published a significant work on plant breeding entitled Die Pflanzen-Mischlinge, Ein Beitrag zur Biologie der Gewächse (The plant hybrids, a contribution to the biology of plants) which briefly mentioned Gregor Mendel's discoveries on hybridization. Although Charles Darwin had a copy of Focke's book he passed it along to a colleague apparently without reading this particular section. The rediscovery of Mendel's work is generally considered to have taken place in the first years

It is native to Armenia and northern Iran, and widely invasive elsewhere. Both its scientific name and origin have been the subject of much confusion. The plant is known for its highly edible berries (technically aggregate fruits), which are large and sweet when ripe. Notably, the species was used in the development of the marionberry. Also known for its extreme vigor and tendency to spread rapidly over disturbed areas, it

Rubus pumilus Focke 1874
plant species in the rosaceae family
Rubus pumilus is an uncommon North American species of brambles in the rose family. It is native to the State of Chihuahua in northern Mexico. Rubus pumilus is a perennial creeping along the surface of the ground, rooting at nodes, with prickles. Leaves are simple (not compound) usually with rounded blades but sometimes 3-lobed. Flowers are white. Fruit is red. The genetics of Rubus is extremely complex, so that it is difficult to decide on which groups should be recognized as species. There are many rare species with limited ranges such as this. Further study is suggested to clarify the
