William Walter Watts

Australian botanist (1856-1920).

Reverend William Walter Watts (1856–1920) was one of New South Wales's greatest authorities on moss. He might be best known for his unfinished Census of Australian Mosses. The fern genus Revwattsia is named in his honour as are at least 30 other species including the fern species Grammitis wattsii. Asplenium parvum is a plant in the spleenwort group of ferns. An epiphytic fern, seen growing on rocks and trees in tropical rainforests, usually at high altitude in Queensland. The specific epithet parvum is derived from Latin, meaning "few or small". Described by Reverend Watts from a cultivated specimen growing in Gladesville, New South Wales. It first appeared in scientific literature in 1914 in the Linnean Society of New South Wales.

Polystichum whiteleggei is a fern in the family Dryopteridaceae. A former common name was heavy fern, alluding to the weight of one of the large, thick textured, fronds when fully developed. The specific epithet honours Thomas Whitelegge (1850–1927) of the Australian Museum, who collected zoological specimens on Lord Howe Island in 1887, who first noticed the fern's distinctiveness.
