Winsome Fanny Barker (23 September 1907 – 27 December 1994) was a South African botanist and plant collector noted for her work as Curator building the collection at the herbarium of the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, as well as her research on Amaryllidaceae, Liliaceae and Haemodoraceae.

Haworthia blackburniae is a perennial succulent belonging to the genus Haworthia and is part of the fynbos and Succulent Karoo. The species is endemic to the Western Cape. It has a range of 3,717 km2 and the population is decreasing due to illegal trade in the succulent industry. The plant occurs on the foothills of the Swartberg between Ladismith and De Rust and southwards to Rooiberg and the Gamkaberg. The plant grows very slowly and is difficult to cultivate. At the foothills the plant is also threatened by invasive plants.

Wachendorfia brachyandra is a small to large, 10–65 cm (3.9–25.6 in) high, winter-growing, perennial herbaceous plant that grows from a rootstock, and has been assigned to the bloodroot family. Its simple, entire, line- to lance-shaped leaves that are usually shorter than the stem, and have pleated, laterally flattened leaf blades af about 35 mm (1.4 in) wide, meaning that there are left and right surfaces rather than upper and lower. The inflorescence is a lax panicle and at the base of each flowerstalk is a dry, brown and papery bract, and those higher in the panicle have a recurved tip.

It has a loose inflorescence with pinkish flowers, the colour coming from the midribs of the tepals, similar to Strumaria gemmata. It was first described by Winsome Fanny Barker in 1944.
