Weingartia heliosoides

Weingartia heliosoides is a species of cactus in the genus Weingartia, endemic to Bolivia. Weingartia heliosoides is a small, slow-growing cactus that typically reaches a height of around 4 inches (10 cm) and a diameter of approximately 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm). Its body is globular in shape, with numerous ribs and a woolly apex covered in spines. The spines are thin and flexible and grow up to 1 inch (2.5 cm) in length. Weingartia heliosoides produces offsetting clusters, which can eventually form dense mats of plants. In the summer months, it produces striking yellow flowers that are around 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter. These flowers emerge from the top of the plant and are followed by small, reddish fruits.
