The order Pinales in the subclass Pinidae, in the class Pinopsida, which under current taxonomic treatment is a monotypic order which comprises only one family, the pine family Pinaceae. The name Pinales has historically been used to refer to all conifers, the term being used interchangeably with an order named 'coniferales', which was widely accepted until at least 2011.
