Flora of Rwanda

Nymphaea thermarum, also known as Miniature Rwandan water lily, is a species of water lily that is endemic to Rwanda. Once thought to be extinct in the wild, all wild plants were believed to be lost due to destruction of its native habitat, but it was thought to be saved from extinction when it was grown from seed at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew in 2009. A previously-unknown wild population was discovered in 2023.

Bulbophyllum kivuense is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum.

Cyperus vandervekenii is a species of sedge that is native to parts of Rwanda.

Aframomum wuerthii is a species of plant in the ginger family, Zingiberaceae. It was first described by Jean-Baptiste Dhetchuvi and Eberhard Fischer.

Bulbophyllum burttii is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum.

Utricularia troupinii is a small, probably annual, carnivorous plant that belongs to the genus Utricularia. It is endemic to Burundi and Rwanda. U. troupinii grows as a terrestrial plant in wet grasslands or marshes at altitudes from 1,900 m (6,234 ft) to 2,500 m (8,202 ft). It was originally described and published by Peter Taylor in 1971, but was identified in 1964 by Taylor as a possible short spurred form of U. welwitschii.

Cyperus graciliculmis is a species of sedge that is endemic to an area in Rwanda. The species was first formally described by the botanist Kåre Arnstein Lye in 1986.

Kuloa michelsonii (synonym Ocotea michelsonii) is a species of tree in the laurel family (Lauraceae). It is native to Rwanda and the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Kuloa michelsonii grows in montane forest from 1,100 to 2,500 metres elevation.

Dendrosenecio erici-rosenii one of the East African giant groundsel and this one can be found on the Rwenzori Mountains, Virunga Mountains and the Mitumba Mountains. It is a species of the genus Dendrosenecio and is also a collection of reclassified Senecio species.

Aframomum spiroligulatum is a species of plant in the ginger family, Zingiberaceae. It was first described by John Michael Lock and Axel Dalberg Poulsen.

Bulbophyllum bavonis is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum.

Bulbophyllum prorepens is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum.

Agelanthus myrsinifolius is a species of hemiparasitic plant in the family Loranthaceae, which is native to Rwanda, Zaire and Burundi.

Agelanthus keilii is a species of hemiparasitic plant in the family Loranthaceae, which is native to Rwanda, Tanzania and Burundi.

Millettia psilopetala is a species of legume in the family Fabaceae. It is found in Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda.

Hubbardochloa is a genus of African plants in the grass family. It was named after British botanist Charles Edward Hubbard (1900–1980). The only known species is Hubbardochloa gracilis, native to Rwanda, Burundi, and Zambia.

Senecio transmarinus is a sometimes straggling member of the flowering plants Asteraceae and species of the genus Senecio a perennial herb that grows on the higher elevations of the Rwenzori Mountains in Uganda. It is also found in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The inflorescences consist of several flowerheads with large yellow ray florets.

Carex lushanensis is a tussock-forming perennial in the family Cyperaceae. It is native to parts of Africa.

Stapfiella ulugurica is shrub native to Rwanda, Tanzania, and Zaïre, Africa. It is found at elevations of 1900–2100 meters. S. ulugurica grows up to 1–2.5 meters tall. It has yellow flowers and black seeds.

Harungana montana is a species of tree in the family Hypericaceae.

Aloe volkensii is a species of plant widely distributed in East Africa.

Bulbophyllum vulcanicum is a species of orchid in the genus Bulbophyllum.

Carex biegensis is a tussock-forming species of perennial sedge in the family Cyperaceae. It is native to central parts of Africa, including Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Polystachya virginea is a species of flowering plant in the family Orchidaceae. It is native from East Tropical Africa to West-Central Tropical Africa. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical forests.

Tabernaemontana odoratissima is a species of plant in the family Apocynaceae. It is found in Zaïre, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania.

Stapfiella lucida is a shrub native to Burundi, Congo, Rwana, and Zaïre. It reaches heights of 1.5 – 3 meters high, shiny 4–5 cm leaves that cluster at the top of branches, yellowish white homostylous flowers, and chestnut colored seeds.

Stapfiella claoxyloides is a shrub native to Burundi, Rwana, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Africa. It's found in wooded grasslands and rainforests at altitudes of 1200 - 2350 m. It grows from 1.5-2.5 meter tall, has 1.5-3 cm long leaves, and white flowers. Medicinally, it's used as a treatment for earaches. It is currently classified as near threatened.

Dendrosenecio is a genus of flowering plants in the sunflower family. It is a segregate of the genus Senecio. Its members, the giant groundsels, are native to the higher-altitude zones of ten mountain groups in equatorial East Africa, where they form a conspicuous element of the flora.

Afrocarpus usambarensis is a species of conifer in the family Podocarpaceae. The tree is endemic to Tanzania, in Afromontane habitats. It is among the tallest trees in Africa, reaching heights of 75 metres in height.
