Flora of Tonga

Pritchardia pacifica, the Fiji fan palm, or piu, is a species of palm tree in the genus Pritchardia that is native to Tonga. It is also found in Fiji, Samoa, and the north-eastern part of India (especially in the tribal areas of Arunachal Pradesh, where people use it as thatched roofing), and the Marquesas. However, these populations are likely to be human introductions. This species is found in tropical dry forests.

Podocarpus pallidus is a species of conifer in the family Podocarpaceae. It is found only in, and so is endemic to Tonga in the South Pacific.

It is vulnerable and threatened by habitat loss. It is sometimes known as the Thurston's palm or the Lau fan palm and is named after a former Fijian Governor John Bates Thurston.

Myoporum sandwicense, commonly known as naio, bastard sandalwood or false sandalwood is a species of flowering plant in the figwort family, Scrophulariaceae. It is a tree or shrub highly variable in its form, the size and shape of its leaves, in the number of flowers in a group and in the shape of its fruit. It is native to the Hawaiian Islands and the island of ʻEua in Tonga.

It is native to certain islands in the Pacific (Hawaii, Tonga and the Society Islands, although it appears to be extinct in the Society Islands). Phyllostegia glabra var. lanaiensis, became extinct before 2021, and was delisted from the Endangered Species Act based on extinction. W.J.de Wilde – Caroline Islands The Pacific imperial pigeon (Ducula pacifica) plays a significant role in the reproduction of the species by dispersing seeds.

Diospyros major, or the Fiji persimmon, is a tree in the family Ebenaceae that is native to Fiji, Tonga, Uvea, and Futuna. It is called 'mapa in the Tongan language.

Psychotria insularum is a rainforest understory shrub from the coffee family, Rubiaceae. Its native range is the South Pacific. It has traditional uses in herbal medicine. In 2021, the potent anti-inflammatory rutin was isolated from P. insularum (known in Samoa as "matalafi").

In Vanuatu it is found on Malakula, Paama, Pentecost, Espiritu Santo, Efate, Aneityum, Aniwa, Tanna, and Hiu. It is a small to medium-sized tree growing up to 20 meters tall. It has red fruits. It grows mostly in littoral coastal forest and lowland rainforests, in primary forest, secondary forest, and disturbed areas, up to 300 meters elevation. In the Samoan Islands it also grows on offshore tuff cone volcanic islets.

Cryptocarya turbinata is a species of flowering plant in the laurel family, Lauraceae. It is a tree native to Fiji, Niue, the Samoan Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu. In Tonga it is a common canopy tree in lowland tropical rain forest below 500 meters elevation.

Zanthoxylum pinnatum, commonly known as yellow wood, is a species of flowering plant of the family Rutaceae native to Lord Howe and Norfolk Islands. It is a tree with pinnate leaves, white male and female flowers arranged in groups in leaf axils, and spherical, purple follicles containing a single black seed.
