The plants are widely distributed in Mexico, Central, the West Indies, and South America. Species Cipura campanulata Ravenna – from central Mexico to northern Brazil Cipura formosa Ravenna – eastern + central Brazil Cipura gigas Celis, Goldblatt & Betancur - Colombia + Venezuela.
