Staurothele rugosa
1991Summary
Staurothele rugosa is a species of saxicolous (rock-dwelling) crustose lichen in the family Verrucariaceae. The species was first described in 1991 from specimens collected on sandstone at Dakota Ridge in Colorado. It forms a conspicuously rough, ashy gray crust made up of tightly packed, angular blocks that give the rock surface a corrugated, mosaic-like appearance. The lichen is found in the Rocky Mountain region of Colorado and Utah, growing on sandstone at elevations of around 5,400 to 6,000 feet....read more on Wikipedia.
