Komagataella Y. Yamada, M. Matsuda, K. Maeda & Mikata 1995
fungi genus in the saccharomycetaceae family
Komagataella is a methylotrophic yeast within the order Pichiales. It was found in the 1960s as Pichia pastoris, with its feature of using methanol as a source of carbon and energy. In 1995, P. pastoris was reassigned into the sole representative of genus Komagataella, becoming Komagataella pastoris. In 2005, it was found that almost all strains used industrially and in labs are a separate species, K. phaffii. Later studies have further distinguished new species in this genus, resulting in a total of 7 recognized species. It is not uncommon to see the old name still in use in the context of
Kuraishia Y. Yamada, K. Maeda & Mikata 1994
fungi genus in the saccharomycetaceae family
Kuraishia is a genus of two species of ascomycetous yeasts in the family Pichiaceae. The type species Kuraishia capsulata was originally described as a member of Hansenula (now Pichia) in 1953. The genus name of Kuraishia is in honour of Hiroshi Kuraishi, Japanese (Micro-)Biologist (Mycology and Lichenology), from the Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. K. molischiana was described as new to science in 2004. The complete genome sequence of K. capsulata was reported in 2013. K. capsulata produces extracellular exopolysahharide, phosphomannan, as an external phosphorus reserve.
Ogataea Y. Yamada, K. Maeda & Mikata 1994
fungi genus in the saccharomycetaceae family
Ogataea is a genus of ascomycetous yeasts in the family Saccharomycetaceae. It was separated from the former genus Hansenula via an examination of their 18S and 26S rRNA partial base sequencings by Yamada et al. 1994. The genus name of Ogataea is in honour of Koichi Ogata (x - 1977), who was a Japanese microbiologist from the Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, at Kyoto University. It was stated in the journal; "The genus is named in honor of the late Professor Dr. Koichi Ogata, Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Faculty of Agriculture, Kyoto University, Kyoto,

Nakazawaea Y. Yamada, K. Maeda & Mikata 1994
fungi genus
Nakazawaea is a genus of yeast in the order Alaninales. The relationship of this taxon to other taxa within the order is not fully unknown (incertae sedis). In 2022, DNA analysis of Saccharomycotina yeasts noted that Peterozyma toletana, Peterozyma tannophilus and Nakazawaea holstii are in a monophyletic sister clade to the Pichiaceae family. Originally, a monotypic genus containing the single species Nakazawaea holstii but Nakazawaea siamensis was added in 2011. With further others added later. The genus name of Nakazawaea is in honour of Dr. Ryoji Nakazawa, who was a Japanese microbiologist
