Fraxinus americana
1753Summary
Fraxinus americana, the white ash or American ash, is a fast-growing species of ash tree native to eastern and central North America. The tree is highly valued as lumber. The white ash population in North America is being devastated by the invasive emerald ash borer, which has already killed hundreds of millions of them as it spreads, starting in during the 1990s. Billions more are expected to die by 2050. Surviving white ashes are often much younger, with the oldest and tallest white ashes largely becoming dead trees due to the emerald ash borer. ...read more on Wikipedia.
